Rebecca woes....

So, following the news about our psycholinguistic guru Rebecca, I'm wondering what each of you guys are planning to do (Nobi, Grace, Soo) since we are each planning to do projects with a psycholinguistic focus of some sort.

I'm wondering if it will be possible to keep her on as a reader for my paper? I think it might be difficult to re-pitch the project to a new professor, should one come along for the fall.

Dr. Hardison, any thoughts?

  1. I don't know specifically about this case, but I do know that you can have an external reader for a QRP, as long as you can justify it to Dr. Gass. She approved an external reader for my project, because I feel I need an Arabic dialectologist to properly evaluate it, and there isn't one at MSU.

  2. She is not in my committee. And she will be here until the end of this summer. So we should finish our projects by that time (hopefully). By then, though, I think we should ask as many questions as possible.

  3. With Rebecca's departure, you're not entirely out of luck. There are two other SLS faculty with backgrounds in cognitive psychology - Diana Pulido and I. My work was in psycholinguistics at the Speech Research Laboratory in the Psychology Department at Indiana University. Although I chose to focus on spoken language processing and production, I have a general background in the field.
